The Menu (2022) Review

Is an American black comedy horror movie directed by Mark Mylod.

Plot:

A group of people goes to remote islands to eat at an exclusive restaurant where something is strange about it.

I found this to be a unique type of movie that I watched and fantasized about. The story is interesting with an exclusive restaurant that contains something sinister about it. It build up pretty well with the guests to notice strange things about the restaurant, like how they know about their past incident on tortillas and also deaths. I do like how the movie gives off an eerie vibe with how the chef interacts with his guests and how sinister he is throughout. There's also no way to escape with his staff being deadly, being on an island, and even when he plans out everything before they get here. I do think it's interesting with the different types of food that they serve and how it relates to the situation that the characters are in. The comedy itself is pretty good with a couple of funny moments and lines to be found in it. My favorite is where they guys try to escape from the island and end up getting caught. The climax itself is something different that I have seen and is a beautiful sight.

The characters themselves are pretty good in this movie and are interesting.

Chef Julian Slowik is the main villain of the movie, who is definitely the best character in the movie. He's an interesting guy on how he made his dishes throughout and the dialogue that he gives out. But he is also an evil man who kills anyone, and even his staff is loyal to him. Ralph Fiennes does an amazing job with his performance as the character, with him being both memorable and sinister.

Margot is Tyler (who is a foodie) date who was not a part of the guests list. It seems like Julian took interest in her due to her not being part of his plans and even talking to her. As for the character, she mostly reacts to current events, refuses to eat any of the food, and discovers more about Julian past. But i do like the character, and Anya Taylor-Joy does a great job with her performance in the movie.

The other characters are also there to react and discover what is going on. But I do like each of their personality and performance by each of the actors in the movie. Tyler, as I mentioned, is a foodie who is a fan of Julian works, but it can also be a dick sometimes.

This is an interesting thing to talk about, and that is the food that they serve. It's interesting on the different types of foods that they serve and looks pretty good on the details of it. And how this relations to a different situation throughout the movie. I'm curious about how the food tastes.
