Hello! This is Dale again, and I'm here for my
second #agassis blog. I've chosen a segment
that offers a perspective on dramas and themes
through personal circumstances; through my
eyes. The topic tackled in this blog mainly
centers around psychological manipulation.
I recently watched my very first Thai series and
I'm extremely pleased with the experience,
unlike my J-drama one. God forbid I ever want
to go near Repeat again... Anyway, I finished the
first season of Girl from Nowhere and it was
definitely... something...

Title: Girl from Nowhere
Country: Thailand
Episodes: 13
Run time: 46 minutes
Year: 2018
Summary:
Nanno, a girl without any background information,
transfers to different school and exposes students
and staff for their lies and dirty secrets.

Nanno is probably the baddest bitch I've seen in my
life so far; she's bad AND she's a bitch. This series
was a very very psychological one and it made me
think a lot about what I would do in her victims'
stead. I would yeet my very own self off Earth,
thank you very much.
She's a master manipulator and one never to be
messed with. She's karma herself and while
various characters, such as the predator in the
first episode, deserved to be punished, I do not
condone her ways. All of her victims were sinners,
yes, but she pushed them all to their limits. She
says that she "didn't do anything" multiple times
throughout the series, implying that she has
nothing to do with the crime her toy commited. In
fact, she does.

Every one of us have thought of doing something
immoral or socially unacceptable. It's human nature
and that is exactly what Nanno wants to prove. That
human beings are capable of doing evil when the
right buttons are pushed. She tested these buttons
herself. Nanno tempts people to side with the
wrong until things go uncontrollably godawful that
they ruin lives and relationships, and ultimately
recieve the karma for their actions (obviously that
of Nanno's temptation).
Nanno cleverly manipulates her emotions to, well,
eventually manipulate people's. She's very sneaky,
calculative, and she's able to predict their reaction.
She appeals to your conscience and humanity to
turn you against yourself and get you to think like
she does. She knows your weakness and inner
desires and uses it against you, only for you to
tear yourself down, and she's able to do this
through personally forming a bond with you or
establishing herself as someone you desperstely
need. It's a scary sight to witness but...

Why exactly do manipulators manipulate people?
I've researched a little bit and what I've learnt so
far is that there are a few reasons why. It includes
background or childhood milieu. Manipulators
are made through natural circumstances such as
how they were treated growing up. It involves
trauma and an extreme feeling of being held down
and controlled by someone of greater power. They
learn it because it becomes engrained as a normal
event, and eventually, they will apply this to various
relationships they end up forming. It's what they've
been exposed to.
Manipulation often comes from a highly competitive
environment where people struggle to gain power
over the other, essentially forcing one to the
fight to avoid being the prey amongst a sea of
hungry predators. It hurts manipulators to lose
control of the situation or not have it in the first
place at all. It tears their ego and triggers a trauma
or an unpleasant memory of some sort. It comes
with the fear of inferiority as they've known the
feeling of abuse, therefore they project their
frustration through hurting others and exposing
them to an environment they were once in.

Manipulators want people to share their pain;
additionally, these actions are learned behaviors
through time. Our reality is different from theirs as
theirs is what puts people in torment. And they
torment people because they're terrified of being
looked down upon hence, as we've established,
they want to be feared in the first place. Basically,
it's a learned instinct of protecting themselves
from what has hurt them, what is hurting them, and
what will possibly hurt them. Vulnerability, change
and power brings out the best and worst in people:
the darker side of human nature.

Manipulation comes in ways that you might not
notice. This could also be helpful as a reference
for future purposes; here's a few verbal examples.
(talking you out of your joys in life)
"You're not going to be able to do this, this is too
hard for you. Save yourself the trouble and stop."
(gaslighting)
"No, you're wrong. You had it in your hands
when we were walking together, I gave it to you."
"When did I say that? I never said that. You're just
making things up at this point."

(guilt-tripping)
"Why can't you just appreciate that I want to keep
you safe at all times?"
"If you leave, you're going to ruin what we've saved
throughout the years."
(twisting your words and exaggerating)
"Didn't you say you hated them because they
made you do all the work for that project?"
(invalidating your feelings)
"You think you have it bad? I got fired from my
job this morning and my wallet got stolen. You
being sad over that is nothing."

I think I've said a lot of my thoughts already but
I'll add a few more points and conclude this blog.
Obviously, manipulation is present everywhere, but
as someone who has never been in an openly
manipulative (?) relationship, I can only say the
negatives from a limited standpoint because it's
not at all socially accepted and I don't know the
perspectives of all parties involved.
From a personal viewpoint though, what Nanno
does is wrong for so many reasons. Firstly,
psychological manipulation and emotional abuse
is not accepatable and never will be. Secondly,
she's ruining so many things. Of course, I get that
they've done wrong, especially the teacher in the
first episode (God forbid that man deserved to
roam the Earth freely), but for those students who
were fueled by temporary, insignificant, and very
much juvenile desires, Nanno's absence would
have been much more appreciated than her
interference.

Expanding on earlier points, having her around
plants insecurities to students and pushes them
to do things they never even once thought of. She
tempts them to do something even they consider
immoral and takes no responsibility for the role
she played once they've left much to ruins. She
blames the course of events as a product of the
student's own decisions, which I guess is true, but
even then, her role is much too great.
If I were to be in a victim of Nanno's position, I
would destroy myself over it too. Nanno controls
her emotions so well and caters to what people
want to see in her. Of course, they'd believe her
over me. I mean, I probably won't even get myself
in trouble in the first place though, given that I
would instead do everything in my power to not
get involved in suspicious shit. I'd say the students
were just too damn needy than necessary. Horny
mfs.

I do think Nanno's capable of something much
greater though. She has shown signs of it. In ep 8,
I got super excited for both her and TK because it
felt like they genuinely enjoyed each other's
company and TK was such a gentle person. Nanno
seemed like she had a great time whenever she was
with him. But then again, that could also be her
manipulating the audience because, as we've seen
before, this girl's too powerful. By the end of the
episode though, I was seriously convinced she had
some sort of feelings for him.
It showed that she was capable of loving people,
but I think she's way too smart for it and knows
very well that TK's going to be her weakness.
Needless to say, it's one of my favorite episodes
in the drama.

I'm off to watch the second season because I've
read it's quite interesting. I seriously love Nanno's
character but, realistically, we all know that's not
the case.
There isn't much more for me to say in this blog
so thank you for lending me much time out of your
day just to read this. I appreciate it lots, and I
hope you have a great rest of your day. Please stay
healthy and safe at all times!

Damn, this :flushed: blog talks too much about manipulation, and that is crystal clear. Great work, now I'm really manipulated to watch the drama...Love from Tekkl :green_heart:

P.s. this has spoilers foe szn 2
I kind of have to disagree with you on that, as you can see more in the second season, nanno usually just pushes ppls crazy or dumb desires, like Wonderwall and the rank, where u could see the they went WAYY overboard than what a normal person would go if they had the chance. Or they already deserve to be punished without nanno's interference, like Minnie and the four bodies. So MOSTLY nanno only punishes them if they deserve it or went too far with what she persuaded them to do, except for one episode, JennyX where you can see that even she knows she went too far with the karma, but after what u said I feel like she was manipulating Yuri on purpose to belive that nanno is losing her morality and mortality and sense of balance and karma
i finally finished season 2 recently and i can definitely see why you say so. my blog was very season-1 heavy but i think if i had watched season 2 before publishing this, i would have another take on it as well. but yuri's... definitely a character. nanno seemed a lot more humane in season 2, if i may say so myself
