A week and a half later life carried on like normal. No birthday talk from anyone, she was happy as she didn't want the whole school knowing. Well, one thing had changed. Alya, Nino and Adrien had been distracted quite lately. She hadn't seen much of them in the past week, which was strange. At first she thought they had assignments from other subjects they had to catch up on but when it became frequent she had an odd feeling they were hiding something from her.

She also asked if they wanted to hang out at the weekend but they immediately shot her down. She knew she didn't give them a lot of notice but she still felt like they were separating themselves from her.

The day before her birthday.

Marinette payed for her lunch as she glanced over to the table she usually sat at. The others were talking and laughing. She picked up her food and headed over to them.

"Hey guys." They immediately stopped talking as she sat down. "What were you talking about?"

"Nothing." Alya avoided her gaze sd she ate her lunch. Marinette sighed before eating. They mostly ate in silence and Marinette hated it. She excused herself and walked to the library. Once she had left Adrien glanced to Alya.

"I hate this Alya, why can't we just tell her that we are planning her a party. She looks hurt. I don't like seeing her like this." He shook his head as Alya bit her lip.

"We can't just tell her Adrien, that would ruin the whole surprise thing. But maybe we've been ignoring her too much. Oh god we're awful friends."

"Tomorrow's her birthday guys, it will all work out. Hopefully." Nino interrupted. Alya nudged him to the side as Adrien put his head on the desk.

"This better be worth it." Adrien looked at the others and they nodded.

"It will be, especially with what you have planned Agreste."

In the library, Marinette sat down on one of the tables and pulled out a textbook. She took out her homework and started answering the questions. At least with her doing it now she wouls have more time for herself when she got home. She flipped through the textbook now and again if she didn't know the answer. After flipping through for a few minutes and bot being able to find it she felt someone hover over her.

"Check page 157." She looked up to see Luka leaning on the chair next to her. He grabbed the book and turned it to the page he mentioned; pointing at one of the paragraphs.

"Thanks Luka." She quickly scribbled down the answer as Luka sat down. "How have you been by the way, we haven't talked since..." She stopped speaking; not really wanting to be reminded of it.

"Yeah. Even though that did suck I'm still happy you don't completely hate me. I'm more than happy to just stay friends." She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding in.

"Great to hear you don't hate me either." She closed her textbook and put it back in her bag, her homework could wait.

"And to answer your question, I've been fine. Nothing major had happened." He shrugged before grinning. "A little bird told me it's your birthday tomorrow. Is that true?" Marinette nodded slightly.

"Yeah, I'm sixteen. I'm not expecting anything big, the family will probably just come around. Maybe Alya will drop by." Although Alya coming around was beginning to feel less likely.

"Well since tomorrow we're not in school I thought I'd give you a little something." He unzipped his bag and pulled out a small flat box. She took it from him as he told her to open it. Undoing the ribbon around it she lifted off the lid. Inside was a small snake badge. "It's not the best but it's better than nothing." He smiled sheepishly as Marinette took it out.

"Its cute. Thanks Luka."

"No probs. Listen, I'll see you around." He went to leave but swiftly turned back around to face her. "Word of advice, tell Adrien how you feel. Well, unless he tells you first." He winked as he exited the library; leaving the bluenette alone in her thoughts. She stared at the door for a moment before looking down at the badge. Did Luka just imply what she thought he did? No, that can't be right. She pinned the badge onto her bag as she put away the rest of her work. As the bell rang she left to finish the rest of the day, still none the wiser as to what her friends had planned.

The day of her birthday (took me long enough to get there lol). Marinette was awoken to her mother entering her room with the biggest smile on her face.

"Happy birthday sweetie." Sabine kissed her daughter's forehead before handing her a box wrapped in pink wrapping paper. As she tore it open she let out a small squeal.

"A new sewing machine, thank you so much!" She put the sewing machine onto her bed and wrapped her mother in a tight hug.

"You're welcome. The rest of your gifts are downstairs." Marinette quickly got dressed as soon as Sabine left. She opted for an off the shoulder black t-shirt and black jeans with a red jacket to keep her warm. After opening the rest of her presents she had an amazing handmade breakfast consisting of croissants and other pastries. Once finished she heard her phone vibrate. Fishing it out of her pocket she opened up her messages to see who it was from.

{ALYA} -30 minutes, be ready-

Marinette shot a text back but received no reply. For some reason Marinette ran back upstairs and started getting ready. Even though she didn't appreciate that Alya had been ignoring her, the fact that she texted her had to mean something and she was desperate to find out what that something was.

30 minutes later, just like Alya had said, there was a knocking on her door. Mari unlocked and opened the door to reveal a grinning brunette on the other side. The bluenette glanced down to see she had a blindfold in her hand.

"Um, what's with that?" She gestured to the mask as Alya stepped forward.

"It's all apart of the surprise. Sorry Mrs Cheng I'm borrowing your daughter for a few hours." Alya picked her head inside to talk to Sabine.

"No problem, have fun you two." Sabine blew her daughter a kiss before she walked into the lounge area.

"Come on, the sooner you put the blindfold on the sooner you can find out what I've planned." Marinette sighed before taking the mask in her hand. Slipping it over her head she covered her eyes.

"Let's get this over with, we better not be walking far or I swear to the heavens I will trip and fall over something." Alya chuckled and waved her hand in front of her best friend to make sure she couldn't see.

"Don't worry, it's not far. I promise." Alya grabbed her arm and slowly maneuvered her out of the house. Closing the door behind them she carefully led her down a few blocks until they eventually stopped walking. Marinette suddenly recognised the route they took. They were at the park, but why? "Ok stand still and don't take off your blindfold until I tell you to." Marinette nodded as she heard Alya's footsteps disappear. It was silent for a heartbeat before Alya spoke up once more. "Ok, take it off."

As she did she there was a loud bang as a group full of people screamed.

"Surprise!"

Ahhhh, 1 more day to go then this is finished- can't wait for you to read the finale tomorrow entitled 'Kissed by surprise' eek. I normally find it hard to write kissing scenes so tomorrows will be interesting to say the least. Hope to see you then, byeeee :wave:
