[I]Greetings! I finally made it back with a story for a #LoveNT colla

Greetings! I finally made it back with a story for a #LoveNT collab! I'll try to make one shorter story today to finish my collab part before the deadline (although this story too seems so short to me *cough*).

Anyways, this is a story on the prompt "Calm before the Storm".

Enjoy your time here!

“In, out, in, out, in, out.”

The water is being disturbed.

Circles arise from the cyan water with a splash, over and over again.

“In, out, in, out, in, out.”

It used to be quiet just a while ago.

Now, it is being painted by small grey particles of dust.

“In, out, in, out, in, out.”

“*Frisk. Could you just stop? You’re annoying me,” whines the ghost.

“Oh no, no I couldn’t,” Frisk beams.

“This is so much interesting! The water doesn’t act like water at all. It’s like jelly,” they add, as they wriggle their leg in the water.

“*Urgh. Make your experimentation quick. I want to go,” the ghost says, as she puts her hands behind her back.

“*It doesn’t feel safe here at all.”

“What makes you say that, Chara?”

“*It’s too peaceful here. This is never a good sign. I have an eerie feeling of being… watched.”

“By who?”

“*Who! That big armor thing, of course!” Chara throws up her hands in frustration.

She looks around, “*it could be anywhere!”

“Relax, Chara. There is nobody here. Just calm, even if silly, calm water.”

Unbeknownst to Frisk, Chara was right. The danger was far closer than any of them could have imagined.

Right behind them, leaning by back on the smooth black wall, there was a pair of watchful, shining eyes, hiding under a cloak of invisibility. It was, as we all know, the Capitan of the Royal Guard, Undyne herself. (Don’t tell that to Chara, though. She’d go insane.) Without a blink, she observed the human child.

The sight before her was uncommon. A strange human, that constantly talked to themselves, with dusty ballet shoes put on.

What was even more interesting to Undyne were the effects the human had on the water.

“Hey, Chara? Can you do this?” Frisk laughs as they dip their hand into the water. They raise their hand and small drops of water follow their hand, flying left and right as Frisk moves their hand.

Undyne closely watches the water drops fly. It was all so familiar to what she has experienced herself. She used to train day and night to get to the strongest level she could. After every drill, she felt so strong and determined, as if she could move mountains…

“*Frisk, I think that’s enough. Let’s go, I had enough of you,” Chara hisses and turns her back to Frisk, facing the wall with closed eyes.

“Right after I’ve shown you my powers? You must be really…” Frisk manipulates some water into a water drop and aims it at Chara. “Jelly!”

They snap their fingers, as the waterdrop flies with a “ping” sound.

It flies right through a shook Chara and hits the wall right near Undyne’s head, spraying her with tiny droplets of water.

“Ha! I hit you!”

“*That wasn’t nice of you. Not at all!”

Undyne lightly exhales, her breath shaking, in an attempt to not bring the seemingly monog child’s attention in herself. She heard stories of unusual humans in literature (*cough*) before, but a crazed, monster murdering kid with sharp aim?

Oh, there was one human like this that Undyne heard of. The “cowboy of justice”, stricken down by king Asgore Dreemurr himself.

As the armored knight was recalling the legends of the past, Frisk already got up.

“Aw, please, read those runes for me…”

“*No! I have no intention to serve insane maniacs who throw lethal water at people who try to help them!

Undyne watches the child to through the northern hallway, the age in which old runes about the Boss monsters are carved.

She drops her disguise and steps forward. It doesn’t matter if the human is powerful or not. They have dust of her kind on their hands, washing them in the rivers of monsters’ themselves! Undyne clenches her armored hand into a fist and raises it high into the sky. As if on command, the blue liquid follows. Disturbing the natural way of the river, Undyne makes a spinning gesture with her wirst. A turquoise, noble spear materializes in her hand. She, even through the armor protecting her palms, feels every single speck of dust, every single remnant of what once was a happily living monster in the spear of water, cursed by the human’s touch.

All the waters Undyne raised fall back into the riverbed with a loud splash and wind begins to howl.

It howls in agony. It howls with the voices of monsters the human has mercilessly slain. It howls with pleas, “Undyne, stop this beast!”.

And so, she clenches the spear in her hands, disappearing into a dark shadow of mystery.

She is Undyne.

She is the Hero of the Underground

and she mustn’t let her Kingdom down.
