"Annyeong KDA"

Today I and my sister from another mother are gonna bring to you guys what Itz like being a Kdrama addict where we from. I interviewed Kachi who lives in Nigeria and this is how it went down. Stay tuned and hope you enjoy the show :grinning:

━━━━━━━✧━━━━━━━

Hi Kachi, Kedu?

Odinmma

(We just greeted ourselves in a Nigerian language  )

Q:I already knew you were from Nigeria and the rest of KDA now knows too. Now tell us a little more about yourself as a Nigerian.

A:Hmm. Okay. In Nigeria, there are 3 major tribes Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. I'm an Igbo girl though I was born and I grew up in Lagos where I currently live

Q:That's nice. So how did you get into Kdramas? Were they that popular in Lagos?

A:Well in my second year in the university, my roommate recommended boys over flowers and personal taste to me but I didn't watch it then because everyone was watching it :joy: . I was bored during the holidays and I decided to watch it. I haven't stopped watching dramas ever since. I think they're sort of popular here. 10 in 25 people have at least one kdrama in their laptop and also, the CD vendors sell Korean dramas. There's obviously a market for it. I think a lot of people watch it but they're not as crazy as I am :joy:

Q:IKR, I know a lot of people that watch dramas but they not as crazy about it as me as well :joy: . So how much has dramas changed you and how do your friends and family react to your new found addiction?

Life of a Kdrama Addict in West Africa-[BC]

A:Well it's not really new found coz it's been 3 years now :joy: but everyone still treats me like a weird person. It's worse coz I listen to kpop too and you have people calling me Korean and strange and some think that I have bad taste. As for my family I'm slowly bringing them to the Korean light. One of my sisters likes kpop now and I managed to have my whole family watch fight for my way so yesss.... progressss!

Q:Spreading the Korean wave is a mandate for us addicts :joy: you once mentioned to me how you mix your language with Hangul sometimes, tell KDA about that and how your friends and family react?

A:Oh. Yes. They're already used to it :joy: . They just call me crazy. It's quite funny tho. It's not like I intentionally want to mix it or Speak Hangul but it just happens :joy: . One time I was at the market and the men kept trying to touch me I just yelled "aiishh jinja hapumaka" (hapumaka means leave me alone) Sometimes if someone at home is shouting my name I just shout back "ahh waeee" :joy: or when my baby sister is bothering me I'll say "aishhh jinja keumanhae" and they just look at me like "what's wrong with her :joy: " but when I'm singing along to a Kpop song my sister gets jealous and says I should teach her Hangul too :joy:

Q: :joy: :joy: :joy: "aiishh jinja hapumaka" that never gets old, so hilarious. Only Nigerians mostly Ibos would understand how funny that is  . Talking about understanding languages, as a Nigerian from west Africa, how is like relating with all these other fans from the world here on KDA? I know you've made quite a number of friends, and I'm sure you hold yourself back from using some common slangs we know over here. How has the whole experience been for you?

A:Well. It's been good. My English has gotten Better. I have to type in full so that my chingus can understand. But at least I have you :grinning: if I'm dying to use slangs :joy: .

Q:Lol,I feel you jare  . Now I know getting internet in this part over here is not cheap and we Kdrama addict need the Internet in fact we can't function without it. I know you to watch a lot of variety shows along side dramas, so how do you cope?

A:Omg its exhausting and expensive. I used to buy CDS or just collect dramas from friends or anyone I know that watches dramas but now that I'm following the ongoing dramas I spend about 2000 naira (about $6.35) weekly on data. But recently I found KBS WORLD TV on the cable TV. IM BLESSED

I totally understand kachi since I am from Nigeria and Igbo also :joy: . I thought I was the only one who spends 2000 naira weekly just to watch ongoing drama.

Me and my sister always get that weird look from our parents anytime we speak words like unnie or gwenchana? :joy: but I think they have gotten used to it  .
