Amor P asked: "Will our genre preferences change the longer we travel in kdrama land?"
First thank you for suggesting this topic and question. It's interesting topic to dissect. You're first inclination would probably be to say "no I like what I like and that's that." But you all know me and I can't just give such a basic one dimensional answer. So let's take a closure look at this shall we.
╔ Drama Watching Through the Years ╝
I have watched a plethora of drama's in my days. Some I've liked, some I've hated and some I'm just so so about. Absolutely 100% my tastes and preferences have changed over the years. But have they been drastic changes? A great drama will always be a great drama. Nothing can take away from an excellent script, acting and character development. But take all of that away and what do you have left? Your personal preferences. Do they change? You start off as a newbie, slowly progress into a casual drama watcher and then bam your a drama addict. Does your descent into dramaland matter?

╔ The Younger Years ╝
When you are first time drama watcher everything is shiny and new. You know what cliches are but you haven't been around them long enough to classify them as 'cliches' yet (back hugs, evil mother in laws, candy characters, amnesia, Chaebols). You've watched your first ever drama (Boys Over Flowers), you are so enamored that you do not see it's flaws. Completely mesmerized by all the pretty you're hooked (line and sinker). It has now become your favorite drama ever....until the next one comes along.

╔ A More Mature Outlook ╝
You've now seen about 20 drama's in all different genres. You have you're favorites but Boys Over Flowers is still reigning at the top. It was your first after all. You can find fault in it but its the nostalgic factor at work. Now it is time to venture out into the open waters and check out some of the classics and not just the 'trendy' drama's. This is where the drama watcher addiction kicks into place. You learn the history of drama's and where most of these trends and cliches originated from. You can now tell the difference between a drama done right and a drama filled with overbearing cliche's and poor acting. A mature drama watcher is born.

╔ The Dust Settles ╝
When all the dust clears and you've established clear cut preferences in regards to drama's you will notice that drama's that satisfied you in the beginning are not necessarily your favorites today. You can look back fondly on the memories but would you watch them again, maybe not. Your tastes have changed and you've grown pickier in your drama viewing experience.
[BIC]╔ Opinion Time ╝
Honestly, yes. You're tastes will change. Its a part of aging and getting older. When I first started watching drama's Full House, Boys Over Flowers, Coffee Prince, You're Beautiful were the end all be all for me. I rewatched those drama's like crazy. Yes sure I still like them but I can see tons of fault with each one. If they were to air today I would probably find them too silly or cheesy to watch. My preferences have changed drastically from when I first started out. Amnesia was a new trope to me in drama's. After probably the 20th drama with amnesia I had enough and now it's become one of my most disliked cliches in drama's. Where when I first started it didn't bother me at all. Same with illness. The early 2000s were filled with drama's where someone was sick or died. I hate this storyline now. Historical drama's also. When I first started watching drama's I wasn't a fan of historical's. Now I love them and its one of my favorite genres to watch.
Have your tastes changed? Do you think they will change?

This perfectly describes my reading journey, but my K-drama journey has been completely different. I already knew what I liked and what I thought was good and bad after 7 years of reading. It was easy to adjust to K-dramas, so I think it depends on your background.
She's so beautiful
I don't think my taste has changed. When I first started watching kdramas, I watched really cliché ones because they were the only ones I had available to me. I hated them all! I'm actually surprised i kept watching dramas because the first few that I saw sucked! But now, I have access to any drama that I want so I only watch non-cliche unique dramas. I really enjoyed your post though. I think what you wrote applies to a lot of people.
I don't think my taste has changed that much, the only thing that comes to my mind is, that I like to watch melodramas once in a while now and I hated them in the beginning. :D
I find now that I'm more in the mood for rom-coms because life is already filled with so much grim why not lighten it up with some sweet, light hearted romance (done well). Historicals are still my fav genre though, but just around the time the dust settled I was into crime/psychology but now its harder to handle the crazy in those. I'm in the phase of warming up to fantasy genres. Another awesome blog Sam :+1:
