let us preface this story-not-story by saying that kahani isn’t a bad person. kind of. sort of. it sounds bad when the narrator talks like they’re unreliable, but that’s only to build the tone of this story-not-story. that being an unreliable narrator and therefore an unreliable character. kind of. sort of. anyways, kahani is the unreliable character, not the narrator. after all, a character lacks the control the narrator has, and the narrator lacks the depth of the character. the character needs the narrator, but the narrator needs a story to narrate. so, expect a lot of odd thinking, words, and stories either “fixed” or taken out entirely. kahani is an honest fellow, but he isn’t kind. he won’t make this easy for you, god knows he didn’t make it easy for me.

kah-HA-nee

With emphasis on the second syllable, Kahani first name can be traced to the surname ‘Kanhai’, which derives from a village in Bihar, India. But, to be completely transparent, none of this was information Kahani knew until after he looked up the meaning of his name on Google and found variations but no definitions. So, the real origins of his name? Ghengis Khan.

Inspired by the former Khagan of the Mongol Empire, Kahani’s parents knew that every child’s name was one of the most important aspects of their character. People are capital, and to get ahead in life, it is vital that one starts to build that capital as soon as they can. And you know those child actors who end up making it big because their parents forced them to be on a Disney show when they were nine, so everyone who watched them basically grew up with the said child actor (whose childhood was ultimately ripped away for our entertainment, RIP) and could recognize their face anywhere? That’s kind of what Kahani’s parents did. They started building that capital the second he popped his head out and gave the hospital staff a scream so loud it made them question everything that led to that point in their career.

Kahani was a name meant to dominate any scene he worked in, and that is exactly what he did. He could play the gyil, flute, and violin by ten. Then, the cello, harpsichord, harp, and guitar by sixteen. He excelled in every sport he played during school— football, wrestling, and track— and even the sports he played for fun, Kahani had a gift for. His parents praised him for it, his teachers crooned their approval for his high scores and exemplar work, and his peers either envied or ired him. Most of them were the latter, because Kahani was many things. Including cocky. But, who could argue with him? He was destined for greatness!

may-HEM

Defined as ‘Violent or damaging disorder; chaos’, Kahani lives up to the name. After all, nobody achieves as much as Kahani has without stressing out. It’s why two out of the three sports are full-; it’s his therapy. Maybe he could use real therapy, but his parents are traditional like that (the last time his school counselor suggested anger management when he was twelvel, his parents started sending him to Sunday school instead). Kahani bottles up his anger and volatile temper, then let’s it all loose on the mat or field. And it works out for him in the end, because there isn’t an athlete from the west coast who doesn’t dread the moment they read the opposing team’s roster and see the last name Odoei.

oe-day

Kahani is a Ghanain-American son (ethnically identified as Grusi) of two immigrant parents. EweHis name in general is difficult for a lot of people to pronounce, but Kahani doesn’t allow anyone to shorten it to find ways to make it easier for themselves. In his eyes, it’s only stripping him of who he is at his roots. He is proud of his heritage, and identifies as a Ghanain before an American.

Kahani made this nickname after watching Peter Jackson’s global hit ‘King Kong’ and deigning the massive ape as his personal hero. While most people ire King Kong’s gentler side, Kahani was drawn to his aggressive nature and the fists he used to cave skulls of lesser creatures in; he wanted to be that great. Bigger, too.

In high school, it was a second alias to his known middle name ‘Mayhem’. Between the two of them, Kahani lived up to both names, a king who had no qualms about destroying anybody in his path, friend or not. Whatever it took to win the next medal, trophy, banner, state or national title. Nobody was off limits. He took what was his, and if you had something he decided he liked, he took that, too. And, later on in life, Kahani’s stage name would be the same. Becoming a musician following his high school graduation and dropping out of college, King Khang was a name that was bound to go down in history.

His age will vary from roleplay to roleplay, but it will usually be between the ages of 18-25 years old. Kahani was born during a hurricane, the lights in the hospital room flickering and the air cold and sterile. Between his mother’s screaming, his father’s soothing words, and the understaffed nurses rushing between sealing the windows and delivering the babe, life already seemed to have Kahani’s life set in stone. Unpredictable and prone to danger, he would grow like the storm he was born during.

Kahani was born and raised in Atlanta, and knows no other coast but the east coast. But, he has a strong distaste for beaches because of how hot and crowded they are, so the whole ‘east vs west coast’ bullshit is something he entertains mainly because it’s funny seeing people from California get all pissy when he shit talks the LA, the bay area, or San Diego.

He’s in the process of learning Mandarin and Japanese, but English, Spanish, and Mossi are three languages Kahani can speak fluently. Living in the U.S. gave him no option but to learn English, however, the area he lived in was a mix of black and Hispanic people, so he started learning Spanish in the fourth grade to communicate better. If he was going to insult someone, it was best to do it in a language they could be offended in.

Mossi is the language his mother grew up speaking, so she was the one to teach Kahani and his siblings once he was a Freshman in high school. His parents have a system where if they respond in one language, their kids have to reply in another. For example, if his father asked a question in Spanish, Kahani could reply in either Mossi or English and so forth.

Kahani is 193 centimeters tall with a mesomorph body type, dark skin, and black hair. His eyes are almond shaped and a dark shade of brown, but he wears s that are an almost electric blue or silver. He takes care of his skin with various body moistureizers and lotions, and he sometimes dons specially made dentures of vampire teeth to match his attire. Most people are intimidated by is height and size alone, but if not that, it is definitely by the mean smile on his lips and the nasty glare in his eyes.

Kahani’s closet consists of all black and muted dark tones in different textures. He wears silver jewerly, has no tattoos or piercings other than the ones in his ears, and his outfits are heavily inspired by punk and street fashion. However, he wouldn’t discover this until after high school.

He ran away from home at the age of nineteen, abandoning any privileges that came with it, and only then could Kahani embrace who he truly was. Years of unfair treatment, not because of his attitude or personality, but because of who he is as a black man in american, instilled a rage within in Kahani that has never waned. He didn’t want to destroy society, but the socially corrupt constructs which built America to this day. And his outfits— loud and abrasive— represent his deep beliefs in anarchism, individualism, existentialism, anti-capitalism, anti-authoritarianism, and anti-racism. It’s also cool as hell.

To the few people that Kahani loves, he is very loyal to. And not in the loyal ‘I would never sell you out for a specific sum of money or a date with Hugh Jackman’ kind of way, but in a ‘Tell me who it is, and I’ll gut them.’ Like a guard dog who pulls back his claws and hides his fangs; tamed, but always ready. He’s incredibly protective in that manner, with no length Kahani won’t go to if it means keeping the ones he cares for safe.

When Kahani sets a goal, he’ll do anything to achieve it. He’s very self-driven and even without proper motivation, he could most definitely accomplish a major goal (such as graduating as valedictorian) purely out of spite.

And this is something he appreciates not only in himself, but other people as well. Speaking ones mind without sugarcoating is a rare gift in modern times, and it’s his bluntness that has saved close relationships from falling apart. He doesn’t mince his words, and even if they hurt, someone has to keep it real. Grow a spine if you can’t handle his honesty.

If you didn’t pick it up yet, Kahani is incredibly arrogant. And with his gifts and natural talent and desire for success, who wouldn’t be? God had to curb him by making him hate rules, because he’d be a global dictator by twenty if not for it.

And despite his sophisticated status, Kahani has an incredibly vulgar tongue. His parents tried to discipline the habit out of him, but he grew up on Adult Swim and Toon Boom, so there was never getting it out of Kahani by the time he was twelve. But, honestly? It’s almost impressive how he manages to slip a swear word into every sentence, and he doesn’t give a shit who’s clutching their pearls around him for it. Cover your ears if you don’t like it.

The first one mainly has to do with the police, other authoritarian figures, and just people in general who think they have power over what he says or does. Like Karens. He won’t go out of his way to show respect to people who don’t deserve it, especially if they expect it from him without giving any in return. And it didn’t start after high school; he’s always held people in higher powers with lower regard because… they just irritated the shit out of him. He didn’t care what job they worked (other than teachers. Kahani pitied them. They don’t get paid enough to care for others, yet most of them do).

However, Kahani does have a soft spot for kids, especially the weird ones. The ones who are social pariahs and sit alone at lunch because they have the balls to be themselves when Kahani didn’t at their age. Younger people are so much more creative when they aren’t trying to stay within the lines society draws and drills into their brains as they grow. But, don’t get him wrong, Kahani will definitely scare a kid into tears if they piss him off enough, but he also laughs when he catches wind of some twerp getting suspended for cussing out the principal.

But, at the end of the day, Kahani would rather be with his crew than anywhere else. He is a home body, and home is where the people he cares for are. He’d die before itting out loud, though.

It’s so depressing that it makes him want to tear out his hair. Colors are supposed to bring life to things that lack it, so how the hell did a whole generation manage to fuck that up?

Some people might find it hypocritical that Kahani follows such a belief after being raised by a high school teacher and a lawyer, but there’s a reason he ran away from home. He hates the social classes, the tax brackets, the polarization of the wealthy and the poor. One man’s greed only builds the other’s misfortune, and yet everyone wants to be greedy. They don’t care about the ones who has to suffer because of them, and Kahani detests people like that.

He likes how much space this color takes up. no matter if it takes up the smallest portion, or the fattest chunk, red is a color that catches everyone’s eye. It demands attention and demands to make its presence known. Nobody can resist neon red.

𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍 ─ 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒆

Contrary to his chaotic nature, Kahani adores Manatees. They're one of the very few animals on this earth that don't fuck up the environment and lives just to live, an idea that he could definitely get behind.

𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒈 ─ 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒖𝒏

This isn't Kahani’s favorite song as it recycles every other week. But, it’s his current inspiration for his band’s next song, and he likes the vibe the music emits. It manages to be settling and unsettling at the same time.

𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒆 ─ 𝑩𝒂𝒕𝒎𝒂𝒏: 𝑳𝒆𝒈𝒐 𝑴𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒆

Kahani isn't the biggest fan of superheroes, but this movie is a national treasure.

𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒌𝒆𝒓 ─ No.

Kahani has never drunk before and doesn’t plan on it anytime soon. There’s no rooted trauma or specific reason, he just never found the appeal, and peer pressure doesn’t work on him.

𝒔𝒎𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒓 ─ No.

Okay, so, Kahani HAS hit a blunt before, however, he was sixteen at the time and curious. People told him that smoking relaxes the brain and school had been stressing him to the max, so he bought it from some sketch down the road and lit it. But, what people didn’t tell him was that you could hallucinate, get chills, and feel as if the world was drilling your ears in.

He didn’t smoke again after that.

𝒇𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕 ─ Yes but no.

He isn’t a feminist knowingly, because he treats everyone as an equal and also doesn’t care for labels. But, as J4That-Ooter x PFA Leek x Rivtwer AJ once eloquently said, “Her, him, they, them, fuck it, everybody gettin’ shot.”

𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒄 ─ No.

Kahani has a really strong dislike for physical public displays of affection. He can shower his significant other in gifts, play them a song in public, even recite a fucking sonnet for them. But, the furthest he can go physically is holding hands, and maybe hugging. If he is in a good mood. He rarely gives praises, but one can expect little compliments and words of affirmations here and there, and a little snarky, but light-hearted banter.

Kahani’s current job stands as a producer and bassist for his band ‘REDACTED’ (no, that isn’t the actual name. The real name has been redacted). He picked up the bass during his junior year in high school, and it’s been his favorite instrument since. He can play as hard and loud as he wants to, and it feels almost just as good as breaking some annoying guy’s fucking nose! But, the reason he became a producer as well was because he didn’t trust anyone else to help his band with material, adapt arrangements, recording, lyrics—— all that special stuff. Which he has been doing fairly successfully if Kahani does say so himself.

Kahani’s current living space will vary in every roleplay, but he’s probably living out in an apartment with his band (the apartment is made for two people; there are six of them). It’s not a permanent thing, they’re successful enough to afford a house— maybe even more than one house— but Kanahi likes the closeness. The way the noise never seems to die. For now. Give them a month or two before he demands his own space and sets the place on fire to give them an excuse to buy a bigger place.

Kahani’s band is incredibly successful, but the money they receive is mostly donated to community art schools, poorer education facilities, and other foundations that colored communities in the area they play in. None of it goes to a organization Kahani can’t reach the direct boss of, however, because ten out of the ten times, the organization is taking 90% of the profit and only giving 10% to the ones that actually need it. They all pitch in to pay rent for their shared apartment (one of them lives in the travel van, so that’s one less body in the building), but for meals, they all take turns cooking or buying out.

Being involved in so many sports has kept Kahani physically in shape, and even now, he watches what he eats and works out regularly. He has no allergies and isn’t a picky eater, so he cleans whatever is on his plate at home. But, the biggest surprise? He has no mental health issues. And this is news to a lot of people he meets, because that means that Kahani doesn’t act the way he does because of a superiority or inferiority complex, or other disorders and the like. He grew up in a loving family, with a roof over his head, and food in his belly. He’s perfectly stable. Which means that Kahani’s also just an asshole who refuses to get his head out of his ass.

And when he got an ‘Am I gay?’ quiz pop up on YouTube, Kahani took it and wasn’t really surprised when he got his results. Asexual and demiromantic. Not that he would have believed that shit Buzzfeed quiz and it’s shittier results entierly, but he had an idea that he wasn’t straight, and that just confirmed it.

And Kahani is the kind of man to encourage his lover to dress however they want, he can fight. But the best part? Shocker, shocker. Surprised that this handsome, charming young man hasn’t been in a relationship yet? Me too. The thing is, Kahani is incredibly picky with who he surrounds himself with. He only has six people in his friendgroup, and these are people he’s been friends with for years. Whoever Kahani chooses to be with— boy or girl— has to be someone he has a close bond with, so the chances of him ultimately dating someone in his friend group is high.

But, describing Kahani as a lover would be complex. You get the best and the worst of his world, after all. His crude comments, harsh demeanor, and sarcastic quips aren’t held back on whoever he’s dating. But, he makes it a little more… bearable for them.. Just, be up front with him. He’ll listen to those complaints, and maybe even harbor more respect for being able to communicate boundaries with him so well. He’s a big cuddler, but hates calling, and would much prefer facetime. And, his love language is gift giving, so he’ll shower them in little trinkets and buy them foods from places he knows they like.

Kahani most definitely got his temper and attitude from Daniella. From a young age, she was a woman who took lip from nobody, and that crackling demeanor only festered in her soul until she birthed a literal fireball. She’d adored the fact that her son was a child prodigy, but upon raelizing that he was the spitting image of her as a child, Daniella worked to curb that self-glorification that seemed to pour from her son’s ass. She was the only woman in his life capabale of instilling fear in his heart.

But, before Kahani and his siblings came along, it had taken his father almost three years for Daniella to even agree to date him, and another year before they kissed. And another beautiful yet agonizing five years of courting ed before she took Hacius’ name and donned the gleaming $50k diamond on her finger.

Which was unfortunate, because Kahani knows he would be even more badass sicking his dog on anyone who so much as looked at him wrong, however he understood why. Between all of their busy schedules, and their parents working full time jobs, nobody would have time to look after one more living creature in the house. And none of them trusted anybody else outside of their family enough to ‘pet-sit’ or whatever the hell it’s called. A stranger in the house? Even with the five stars and a kiss from God, Kahani wouldn’t trust them. But, if he had the chance, he would buy a pitbull puppy, name it Bloodhound, and raise that little bastard to bite the jugular of anyone who Kahani couldn’t put down himself. (Maybe it was good that his parents didn’t buy him one.)

the first time kahani won something, it was the spelling bee in elementary school. it included grades from third to fifth, with most of the contestants being the fifth graders. kahani was one of the two third graders. and while he didn’t the word he spelt to win, he re the feeling of winning vividly. the looks of awe he got from his classmates, and the not so subtle frowns from the older students who firmly believed he only won out of courtesy of being the youngest one there. true or not, he still fucking won, and took that certificate home with pride.

that certificate is buried in the trash somewhere now, having needed to make space for the next line of medals and ribbons he would win come middle school. but, some wonder, and others believe that it had been that damn certificate that created the little bastard he became.

the first time kahani won something that wasn’t an award was in sixth grade. it was a fight with a kid from his math class, but this one was bound to happen. kahani had taken initiative to tell the teachers that he didn’t feel comfortable with another student telling people he was an ‘ass kissing suck up’ because kahani was many things. but NEVER a suck up. so, when the kid finally grew balls and said that kahani got it from his mama, he swung. the other boy was down by the second punch.

at first, kahani’s parents had been angry with him when they were called to school to overhear his punishment. they’d always told their son to never strike first, and kahani had received two weeks of suspension. however, the other boy would only receive three days. and it was only due to hacius’ firm voice and demanding questions did they discover that the boy had been harassing their son for the past month, and that the staff had merely written it off as ‘boys being boys’.

attending a predominantly white school, it didn’t take a genius for kahani’s parents to put two and two together. and that was the first time his mother and father had taken him from school to get ice cream, his siblings crowing and complaining about how unfair it was that kahani got a sweet treat for getting suspended when they got home. to this day, that memory made him smile.

kahani ran away on a random tuesday night. or, at least, everyone thought it was random. his family didn’t know about the calendar on his phone that he’d been using to count down the days, a red line crossed through each date starting from seven months ago. nor did they know that the dinner he treated them out to that tuesday evening was his last gift to them. that, and the stacks of cash beneath his bed with his siblings’ names on each, a starting $1,000 for college. they didn’t know he’d began working sophomore year to save money for his brother and sister, not for him. because he didn’t plan on going to college. and he didn’t plan to stick around. but they didn’t know that.

and they didn’t know that down the road, five other kids would be planning the same. their families didn’t know about the seven months, or the reasons for getting jobs so early. they didn’t know that one day they’d wake up, and their kids’ bed would be empty. but what they did know was that it wasn’t their fault.

each kid had left a note telling their family that this wasn’t their fault. it wasn’t. it wasn’t their fault that living as a teenager was so hard, and that looking in the mirror felt like staring at a stranger. it wasn’t their fault that at eighteen, the world was already suffocating them. it wasn’t their fault the six of them left behind the lives they’d built, and the people with it. it wasn’t.

and now, seven years later, even with less in his pockets, cabinets, and home, kahani felt….
