What is a Try-hard?

The variety of gamers is amazing.

We have the noobs, the casual server hoppers, the competitive players, the lore dwellers, and just all around fun players. But today, we aren't going to be focusing on THOSE players.

We're focusing on the OTHER players.

The Try-hards.

Okay, now, I want to clear up some misconceptions in the community about what a Try-hard is. Because everyone treats them as these toxic pieces of absolute trash. I am a Try-hard myself, and it breaks my soul to see such a common type of player get trashed on.

So here it is, what is a Try-hard?

What's a Try-hard?

Let me clear this up, Try-hards are NOT sweaty, fat men who live in their mom's basement and do NOT have their Monster Energy leaking from their mouth. As much as everyone would love to believe, Try-hards are just like you and I. They think the same, they look human, and their statistics aren't godlike.

A Try-hard is someone who just wants to win the game.

These people occur the most in-game such as Overwatch, Call of Duty, and Battlefield. But today, we will only be on the Overwatch side of the spectrum. So it only begs the question, what does the average Try-hard hard look like in Overwatch?

What does a Try-hard look like?

A Try-hard is usually someone who will sacrifice their own personal fun or comfortability with playing another hero to win the game. Such as they would play a Tank instead of being the third DPS on their team.

And for future reference, I am a Try-hard. I will usually swap heroes to fit a certain team comp or switch to another role to play what is needed. For example, I will switch to a Tank when we already have 2 DPS. Unless I'm playing with a friend and we are doing stupid strategies. Then who needs team comp?

Another quality of a Try-hard is that they will always be trying to play the objective, not just filling in for the team. Sure, they are playing Reinhardt, but you will see them nowhere else besides the objective. There are a few exceptions to this, but a majority of the time, you better not be expecting to pull off any cool flanks or plays with these people. But there are still exceptions to this, as well.

And one last thing for you guys to know, Try-hards do not scream in their microphone or furiously type in chat. As I said, Try-hards will try their hardest to win, so they won't be toxic or that will lower their chance of success. There is a fine line between "Try-hards" and just straight up "Toxic Players". Seriously, stop calling Try-hards toxic, because they really aren't.

Can Try-hards be Toxic?

Okay, I am going to be completely honest saying this, no. I've already explained this, but Try-hards are not toxic. If you ever come across someone that is trying to win, but they're being toxic at the same time, then they're just toxic. They are NOT Try-hards, but they're toxic.

I understand that some people will think that if they see someone with all of the qualities that I described in the section above, they will be a Try-hard even if they're toxic. No, that is not the case, because them being toxic is lowering their chance of winning the game.

But there is an exception to this, and I call people that have all of the qualities of a Try-hard but are toxic, "Hogs". I call them this because they will try and make sure everything goes the exact way they want it to win. But they aren't Try-hards, keep that in mind.

Conclusion

This isn't exactly the biggest blog I've made or the one with the most humor, but I wanted to make this to share the truth about what a Try-hard hard is. It will surprise you how many people don't know what a Try-hard actually is.
