The tier three competitive scene is fun.
I genuinely enjoy playing Overwatch, but I much more prefer the exciting feeling of Overwatch Competitive. I’m talking, specifically, about the Tier Three Competitive scene. I’m going to explain my experience while playing through this team, and probably post this b our Discord. Hi Mishu, Sky, Shy, Titanium, Manager Sky, First Aid, And Speederps, Obtuse, Emf, and Narwhal.
This is my story for playing with Nomads.
~~~
Beginnings
To first explain how I even found the team, I have to explain one of my friends. His name is ShyShyShy, but I’ll be calling him Shy. I met Shy through another friend, and we hit it off. Sure, he got annoying at some times, but not more than an average little brother. I played Main tank, and he played off tank. From there, we played hours together of just duoing and perfecting our synergy. We worked on combos, strats, comms, and this soon helped me in the long run. It was during this time I truly refined and developed my number one skill, and that skill is shot calling.
Shy recently signed onto a team named “Nomads” and he said that they were looking for a Main tank. They were currently holding trials and he invited me, because of how long we’ve played together. I’ve always wanted to play on a team before, and it’s my dream to one day be in OWL, so I said why not? He sent me a Discord invite (Discord = Messaging service for Gamers) to a server called “Nomads”. And I accepted. The manager, Mishu, put me on a scrim as a tryout with the starting roster. I only ever got one game to tryout, because as it turns out, our first game was in like two days, so I had one shot to prove myself. And good fucking lord did I do. I had another tryout who I don’t saying that he was going to root for me and say that I deserve a starting spot. Mishu also said that I would be on the Main Tank role. But we only had one little problem.
how I said we only had two days before our first scrim? Yeah, turns out we already had our entire roster made.
So Mishu said that since he couldn’t kick our Main Tank because I was here, he decided to put me on Coach. And I sure am glad he did. The Main Tank that I was supposed to be replacing was named Sky, and I absolutely love him. He’s a great guy with a booming attitude, (Literally) and he’s not afraid to run some banter. Only problem was that he was absolutely garbage at Main Tank. His positioning was off, he didn’t play with the team, mechanics were low, always charged, and he was extremely toxic. But Mishu said that he wanted me to help Sky out. And so next scrim, I recorded our game using OBS and I reviewed it. Afterwards, me trying to live up to my role as a Coach, I DMed Sky with criticism on his play. Afterwards, his play tremendously improved. Then we started to work on other players. Like our DPS: Mishu and Complex, Mishu was not only a Manager, but also a player for future reference. Mishu was aggressive and not team oriented, and we fixed this. Complex was extremely loud and always clogged comms. We kicked him and he ed another team. Other players were kind of a blur, because they were either kicked or they left. But while our team was going through a heavy learning period, we went through very tough times before hand.
Like, extremely hard.
Tough Times
Our team went through a heavy struggle. We played 3 matches and countless scrims and lost every single one. The team was easily at an all time low throughout this period. It honestly made everyone very tilted. The only people not tilted on the roster were our s:Obtuse, Anderps, Shy, and our Off tank, CJ. We’ve rotated what it felt like to be thirty different DPS besides Mishu so I’m not going to name all of them.
The team and games have gotten so hectic before where we have had teammates leave the Discord server and team MID GAME. This happened TWICE. CJ eventually got so mad after trying to be nice and not tilt and trying to play, that he eventually started saying everyone on the team was garbage and we didn’t deserve to be on the roster. So now, not only did we need to once again find another DPS to play with Mishu, but we needed another Off tank. Not to mention our s were usually late a lot,we nearly skipped tons of scrims and games due to close calls with people being late. Luckily we pulled through, and I don’t ever having to withdraw from a match.
But I also said earlier that this was a time where we learned. We had to major VOD reviews and each time we did, EVERY player improved DRAMATICALLY. We went from playing and losing hard to platinum teams to nearly beating Diamond teams. It was a low for the team, but it was the start of a new team, a breath of fresh air that we all desperately needed. We felt like we were improving, growing as Overwatch players and learning from me and our other coach, Jeffery. Jeffery eventually had to leave due to inactivity and real life problems, so we eventually got another coach. PogChamp.
Anyways, there was one session that absolutely turned EVERYTHING around for us. I feel like this was the time where we decided enough was enough and we did something. We came out from our depression, and we didn’t just come out walking, we were in fucking jets. We broke speed limits, and we were hyped.
The game where it turned everything around
We still haven’t found our new off tank player, because CJ left mid game during a scrim, and no one was was prepared for it. Mishu already put out applications but it wasn’t enough. By the time we got to our game and everyone was in the lobby, we only had 5 players. We were going to have to withdraw. But Shy had and I had other ideas. I’ve always had nutty aim, because I have a crippling addiction to FFA. And I also have the mentality and peeling of a tank, so Shy said “Why not put Sleeping on the roster?” So we played the first half of our map. We got fucking rolled, and we went back to being toxic.
So I told everyone to shut the fuck up and listen up. During the time we were given to select heroes and wait for the enemies to set up their defenses, I talked to every player that was with us and told them everything. I told what they were doing wrong and that they fucked up. But I also told them what they were gifted in, and we could turn this game around for us. And oh boy did we turn it around. I think after I talked with the team, something clicked together. As if that was the final puzzle piece missing and I just found it. Not only did we roll the enemy team, but we bested their time. We fucking rocked. It was honestly amazing, how I said Sky is toxic? But good lord is he fun and loud when we’re not losing. We kept morale up easily with a combination of me. And if we thought this game was good, it was nothing compared to what was going to happen to us as a team.
The Comeback
For the next few games, we absolutely rolled. We went from trying to even find Diamond teams to wanting to play against Masters. Our confidence was on the rise and the tide wasn’t stopping any time soon. Now that I write about it, the thought occurred to me that every player on our team runs on confidence. With maybe an exception of me, Shy and Firstaid (A ringer we picked up that is still with us today). Huh. Anyways, we started to snowball our momentum into other games. Game after game and scrim after scrim, we started to become unstoppable. Sometime throughout this, Mishu decided he wanted to fully focus on playing and become a good teammate, so he hired someone else to be manager. His name is Manager Sky; or just Mike. Mike found better teams for us to play against, and even found a new off tank to replace me. Not going to lie, I’m a bit disappointed, but Titanium is a godlike Offensive Off Tank. And he also managed to keep up with the high morale of the team and it probably boosted his play as well, because he has aim that is, Note level. After taking me off of the Off Tank role, the team needed to decide what to do with me. So I played both Off and Main , swapping from the two from whenever me and Shy (Shy is the other player, although technically he is a flex) felt like it.
I want to bring up our last game we’ve played this season to end up and wrap up this blog. Our last game happened three days ago, and it was hype. We wanted to finish off strong, and we tried our hardest. But the other team, which was a Masters team, rolled us. It honestly sucked, but we didn’t give in. The entire time they made fun of us, called us trash in general chat, and said the only thing good about our team was our D.va. And we were fucking pissed. We’ve come all this way to make a comeback, and we’re going to let some Masters bully us around like we’re some chew toy? It was here that I fucking snapped, and I played hard. I started to record in OBS and I hard focused. I think everyone else did, too, because after we were down 0-2, we fucking smoked them. First held them on multiple occasions and we easily took the point. We all combined our juice and decided enough was enough. Everyone was on point, Mishu played well with the team, Firstaid synegized well with Mishu, Sky wasn’t toxic at ALL and was very positive, Titanium did his thing and popped off, and me and Shy made sure they could all do it. We completely reversed swept them. Mind you, our average team SR was PLATINUM when we started, and now majority of our players are Diamond and are used to playing Masters.
Don’t believe me? Well you don’t need to, because I have all the proof we did do it. I’m going to post the vod down below of our last three maps in our reverse sweep.
Conclusion
This team is a great experience and time. Right now, I’ve been put into a flex role because of my play as Tracer, Off Tank, and Off that game. Our team has come far, and I’m extremely proud we’ve done all of this. Sky is no longer toxic and has a great Reinhardt. Mishu and Firstaid are great and play well together. Me and Shy enable the team and Titanium does everything we can’t or miss. Not to mention our players that aren’t on the starting roster, they’re also badass. Anderps, Zal (Technically he is on the starting roster but every time I’ve played he is never there), and Obtuse are all great. I love my team, and while we may have had inner turmoil, we’ve all pushed ed it and had a successful season. Love you guys.
